Pets of the Week: Animal Welfare League – Florida Weekly
Rusty is an adorable adult dog with a beautiful rust-colored coat that perfectly matches his name — and his warm, confident personality. This sweet guy is house-trained, knows basic commands, and is as independent as he is charming. Rusty enjoys companionship but also appreciates personal space — so, he’s not clingy, but he’ll always be nearby, ready to offer you quiet support and a wagging tail. This loyal, well-mannered pup thrives in a calm, predictable environment and would love to be the only pet in your home.
Meet Chesterly, whose wide loving eyes and roaring loud purr will draw you in — just before he sprints like a cheetah through your home. Fair warning: This gorgeous cat will look for some carb loading before his workout and may dig into your pasta. He’s also a bit of a bread thief. He was born with a sunken-in chest, called a pectus excaavatum, so he may need an extra break from his wind sprints — but it hasn’t slowed him down yet.
These animals are available for adoption at the Animal Welfare League, 3519 Drance St., Port Charlotte. All animals are microchipped, neutered and current with their shots. We are open by appointment only. All of our adoptable pets are on the AWL website (www.awlshelter.org). If you see a pet that you would like to meet, call to make an appointment. We are taking appointments from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.
