Most cat parents are familiar with this comment: cats don't care about us—they simply tolerate us. I have had cats all my life, and I never agreed with this statement. They are just misunderstood! However, a new TikTok trend suggests there may be some truth to this stereotype. Well, at least they don't tolerate our comedy skills.
Everyone fancies themselves an amateur comedian now and again. We all have a funny bone we can tap into. Next time you're feeling especially hilarious, don't run your material on your cat. Or, do, and see their reaction. Cats aren't like dogs. They are harder to win over. However, if you do get your cat to laugh at your jokes, you know you have a solid sense of humor. Most cats, though, will not find you funny. We've recently learned this from TikTok.
A viral TikTok trend is encouraging users to tell jokes to their cats, followed by an obnoxious laugh, and see how they react. Nicolerad3 tried this out on her cat, Cali. In the video, she says, "Hey Cali, want to hear a joke? What do cats call a nice dinner?" She gives Cali some time to think it through before hitting the punchline, "a Fancy Feast," followed by an over-the-top laugh. Cali took off running. Tough crowd! Or maybe she has heard that one a few too many times. A commenter left crying laughing emojis, and Nicole responded, "She's my baby though."

Other cat owners have tried the trend out on their pets. Womineer told her adorable tabby, Ollie, an especially cheesy joke. "What do you call a pile of cats?" she asked. Her cat responded with a meow, as if dying to know where this was going. She replied, "A meow-tian," with a cackling laugh. Her cat took off running.
People in Womineer's comments thought her cat's reaction was hilarious. They took screenshots of Ollie running away, either in fear of the noise or disturbed by the bad joke. "OH GREAT HEAVENS," Maurcia W. captioned her screenshot of Ollie running off. "She was rly listening & responding too😭😭" wrote another viewer. Possibly my favorite comment on the video, "he would 100% be the first one to survive in a horror movie😭😭"
