Cleveland photographer helps sanctuary expand home for rescued foxes: Ready Pet GO!

CLEVELAND — At Fox Tale Sanctuary in Medina, peace and safety have replaced the uncertainty many of its residents once knew.
The nonprofit provides lifelong care for captive-bred foxes — animals bred to be sold as exotic pets. In Ohio, it’s legal to buy and own a fox, but as founder Michelle Craddock has learned, that often leads to heartbreak.
“They look cute and cuddly, but they’re still wild animals,” Craddock said. “They can be destructive, and that’s when people realize they can’t keep them.”
When owners surrender their animals — or abandon them altogether — Fox Tale Sanctuary steps in. What began with just a few foxes has grown into a bustling haven. When we first visited a few years ago, 17 foxes lived at the sanctuary. Today, there are 35 and counting.
To meet that demand, Craddock and her volunteers are expanding the facility — building larger enclosures and creating a fenced play yard where foxes can safely explore, dig, and run.
