A winner has officially been crowned in The News & Observer’s cutest cat contest. After going paw to paw in our pet poll, Marmalade from Raleigh received the most votes as the most adorable in the Triangle area.
The 2-year-old orange and white cat was adopted by her paw-rents about two years ago from Wake County SPCA when she was just a kitten.
“Marmalade is a loving, friendly cat with a slightly mischievous side. She likes to play with her Dachshund friend Spiral and run around the house like she’s galloping,” her owners, Harry Douglas and Dori Dejong, said.

“She often comes to the door to greet us whenever we get home from work or being out. She doesn’t meow or make noise at all except around supper time when she wants her ‘special dinner’ (Friskies ocean white fish). Marmalade likes to knock small items off tables and ‘flop’ on the floor randomly around the house.”
As the winner of The N&O’s cutest cat contest, Marmalade will now advance to compete in a national poll that includes winners from fellow McClatchy papers across the U.S.
