In the now-iconic clip, a fluffy gray cat—expressive, and clearly under the weight of emotional termoil—pleads desperately for lunch like he hasn't eaten since the fall of Rome. His human, laughing but also bargaining for her own sanity, tells him that it is not lunch time yet.

The meows start soft—gentle appeals, tiny pleas. Then, as his human films, he realizes the betrayal. Suddenly we’re in full Shakespearean tragedy mode. Eyes filled with “Why would you do this to me, mother?” He is the moment. He is the drama. He is the starving artist (minus the starving part).

Now, I live with a Heeler/Rat Terrier mix named Lola—my little athletic diva—and while she does enjoy a good snack, she does not whiper. She does not plead. There is no negotiation stage. Lola goes straight to stage five: absolute certainty. If she wants a treat, she simply walks into the room like a sheriff entering a saloon. Chin up. Eyes locked. Stance wide. She just stares like, "You already know what I want. Let's not pretend we're new to this."

Meanwhile, this cat is on the floor like he's writing poetry and clutching his pearls because lunch is ninety seconds late.
