Salmonella poses risks to both pets and the people who handle contaminated products or come into contact with pets that have consumed them. Exposure can also occur through contact with surfaces, bowls, utensils or countertops that have touched the product. Risk increases when people do not wash their hands thoroughly after handling the food or after contact with their pet.
