A Boca Raton company has recalled one lot of dog treats that also went to four other states after testing found salmonella.
The company is Elite Treats. The dog treats are Elite Treats Chicken Chips for Dogs. The lot No. is 24045 (expiration date 04/2027). Elite Treats’ recall notice says the 6-ounce bags were sold to Florida Hardware, which sold them to feed stores in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.
“The (salmonella) was noted after testing performed by a third-party laboratory identified contamination in a related yet commercially unreleased lot of the same product,” the company-written, FDA-posted recall notice said.
Salmonella in pets, as in humans, can lead to diarrhea, which can get bloody, vomiting, fever and stomachaches. If you think your pet is infected, get to a veterinarian. Also, handle with care — infected pets can pass salmonella to their humans via saliva and feces.
