TOPEKA (KSNT) – Federal health officials say several hundred pounds worth of dog formula distributed nationwide is being recalled as it may be contaminated with salmonella.
The Food and Drug Administration said a voluntary recall is in effect for a product from Pretty Bird International, Inc., based out of Minnesota, as it may be contaminated with salmonella. The recall impacts a total of 4,375 pounds worth of the pet food.
Salmonella can bring about symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, chills, headache, fever and stomach cramps in people, according to the Mayo Clinic. People who are very young, very old, pregnant or who have weakened immune systems are at greater risk with salmonella infections. Pets that consume food contaminated with salmonella can also fall ill.
