Dog owners have been told they should never feed one type of meat to their pets, as it could be highly dangerous – potentially leading to stomach issues and pancreatitis

Giving your dog a treat should never come at the cost of their health. We're a nation of dog lovers, and many of us can't help but spoil our pets, particularly with food-based treats. Some dog owners will feed their pooch some of their dinner off their own plate, while others will give their canine companion a small sample while they're cooking.

There are a number of foods that we humans eat that dogs cannot digest. Most dog owners will know that foods like onions, grapes, and chocolate should never be given to their pets, but there's one food people don't realise can be dangerous. We tend to think that meat is perfectly fine for dogs to eat, as it forms most of their diet, but animal experts are warning people never to give their dogs one type of meat that could be harmful.

The potential harm of the food came to light in the comments of a TikTok video in which a couple filmed their golden retriever puppy trying a sausage for the first time.

The young dog was so excited to eat the freshly cooked sausage that it put the whole thing in its mouth without biting it, causing its owners to rush in and pull the sausage out of its mouth, worrying that it might choke. They then broke the sausage up into smaller pieces so the dog could eat it.
