Oregon health officials are urging families to consider not gifting live poultry for Easter, citing the risk of Salmonella infections, particularly among young children.
"Giving chicks and ducklings as gifts should be avoided,” said public health veterinarian Emilio DeBess. "Young children characteristically will hug and even sometimes kiss the animals and often may not wash their hands afterward."
