Puppies are adorable and bringing one into your home is usually a wonderful experience. But, at the same time, teaching your fluffy new friend how to behave – and how not to behave – can be a real challenge

Raising a puppy can be one of the most rewarding experiences anyone can have. Bringing a tiny ball of cuddly cuteness into your home and giving them a loving, safe environment in which they can grow and thrive warms the heart of even the grumpiest pet owners.

But it's not all fun and games. Anyone who's ever owned a puppy knows the pain of them chomping down on you with their tiny, razor-sharp teeth. While they don't know any better, that's little comfort when your adorable little ball of fluffy cuteness suddenly transforms into a piranha.

Thankfully, this behaviour can be trained out of them – although it takes some work. Dog behaviourist Will Atherton explained three simple steps to stop your puppy from sinking their teeth into you in a video on Instagram, where he has 406,000 followers.

Opening the video, he said: "Puppy biting is at minimum annoying, at most actually really painful, and either way, something that you have to fix with your puppy immediately. The first tip is that you have to understand why our puppies bite."
