
Chicken dog treats sold in five states including Alabama are being recalled because the bags may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that Elite Treats, LLC is recalling bags of Elite Treats Chicken Chips for Dogs due to Salmonella contamination.
The contamination was discovered after testing by a third-party laboratory identified contamination related to a commercially unreleased lot of the recalled product.

Pets eating the contaminated treats are at risk for illness. People can become exposed to Salmonella by handling the contaminated products, contact with pets who have eaten the recalled treats and contact with surfaces touched by the contaminated food.
The risk of illness from Salmonella increases if people do not thoroughly wash their hands after handling the recalled products or touching their pet and do not thoroughly clean contaminated surfaces, according to the FDA.
