BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — A local dog treat company has issued a recall on one of its products after it may have been contaminated with Salmonella.
On Tuesday, Elite Treats LLC., of Boca Raton announced its recalling a single lot of "Elite Treats Chicken Chips for Dogs" after it was possibly contaminated with Salmonella.
The company says the package comes in a 6-ounce black and gold bag and is marked on the back with the number 24025 with an expiration date of April 2027 (4/2027).
Elite Treats says pets infected with Salmonella may show symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea — sometimes bloody — fever and vomiting. Some animals may also experience a loss of appetite and abdominal discomfort. Pet owners whose animals have consumed the recalled product and are displaying these signs, or who suspect possible infection, should contact their veterinarian.
The recalled “Elite Treats Chicken Chips for Dogs” were distributed to Florida Hardware, LLC, which then supplied the product to feed stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
