Sidekicks have joined Fortnite as an adorable addition to your loadout, providing you with a virtual pet that you can pet, play with, and embark on adventures together across various game modes. Sidekicks have been in the works for months now, with the community referring to them as "Companions". Now officially revealed as Sidekicks, Fortnite players might want to know how they can get a Sidekick and what they actually do before they start spending their V-Bucks on a new friend.
Sidekicks can be purchased from the Fortnite Item Shop, and each of them seems to cost between 1,200 V-Bucks and 1,500 V-Bucks. Additional Sidekicks, like Cats and even collab Sidekicks from Disney, are expected to be added in the Item Shop at a later date. Players can also get Sidekicks from Battle Passes, starting with Peels, who features as part of The Simpsons Battle Pass.
After purchasing or unlocking a Sidekick in Fortnite, you can customize the appearance of the Sidekick. Customizing a Sidekick is a one-time only thing, meaning if you confirm the appearance changes, you will be unable to revert them. This makes Sidekicks something that you can purchase multiple versions of to change the name and appearance, and here's how to do it:
There are a bunch of Sidekicks that players can get from the Item Shop, and it's inevitable that Fortnite will add more, either with their own designs or based on popular franchises from Disney and other companies. However, no matter the cost or ways available to get Sidekicks in Fortnite, customizing them is always a one-time thing, so you can buy the same Sidekick multiple times to customize it differently.
If the Next Step option is disabled or greyed out, then that simply means that you own a Sidekick with the exact same Appearance as the one you are creating, so you will need to change how it locks before proceeding.
