Labrador retrievers are known for their adventurous sides, which can get them in precarious situations at times. While they aren’t strangers to rolling around in mud or running around in the water, they aren’t exempt from the number one enemy to most dogs: having to take a bath.

While a bath with some sweet-smelling bubble bath may seem like a relaxing activity to us (and one we wish we could do more often), clearly some dogs have other feelings when it comes to bath time.

Recently, a Labrador retriever named River was subject to the horror of a bath in a viral moment on Instagram that was not only adorable, but it also reminded many users of the struggle of getting their own dogs clean.

The video, showcased on River’s joint account with his brother Finn, gave viewers an up-close shot of a sad River sitting in the bathtub during his latest wash. For anyone with a pet, the moment was no strange occurrence, as many viewers shared how their own pets hate the bathtub as well.

To make matters worse, River’s owner captioned the Lab’s tragic moment with “When you worked hard to smell like a frito factory but mom wants you to smell like vanilla and oatmeal.” All of that work went down the drain, literally.
