
The repeated attacks by Russian forces on Ukraine's energy grid has resulted in power outages across the country. Drones rained down again early Monday morning cutting off power to five regions across Ukraine. Hundreds of thousands are left without power during one of the coldest winters ever as temperatures drop well below zero overnight.
A state of emergency has been declared for the country's energy sector as the brutal strikes continue. "Emergency repair work is underway if the security situation allows," states the energy ministry.
Scheduled power outages are in place which means that the few areas where power is still available only receive power for a couple hours a day.
Kyiv have been without power for over a week and will remain that way for some time as the attacks continue. People are advised to evacuate, but that is not possible for shelters who are the only safe haven for homeless animals.
Under the Sun cares for over 200 dogs and shared with us that they are struggling to heat the shelter and cook porridge with the power outage. Porridge is needed due to the shortage of pet food.
