Pets of the Week: Meet Socks and Akiko – Brainerd Dispatch
Socks is a 10-month-old Labrador/rottweiler mix who’s as chunky, soft and floppy as they come — a total teddy bear in puppy form! Socks is dog- and cat-friendly, and he'd appreciate another four-legged friend in his new home. He has been learning about potty and crate training since he arrived and is working on mastering them to impress his future family! Socks has been here four months now and has spent a good chunk of his life in a shelter. It's not because he's not cute — he's adorable — it's because when any potential adopters come to meet him, he shies away in a corner or behind a trusted human. He's never shown any concerning behaviors with new people, but we're going to be completely honest with you. It's going to take a lot more than a single meet and greet to get on Socks' "approved humans" list. He requires background checks, reference checks, at least three biscuit offerings, a passed vibe check and several sniff inspections before trust is earned, so clearly, it's a very extensive screening process. But believe us when we say this good boy is 1,000% worth it! We truly think if someone brought him home they'd quickly find themselves on Socks' "approved humans" list and would see his soft, puppyish, goofy side. He's going to be a phenomenal, devoted and loyal companion for someone willing to jump through the hoops to get there!
This neat looking feline has been at our shelter since the end of August. Akiko is a big personality in the cat colony and always wants to be the center of attention! He is fantastic with the other cats, and he also lived with dogs and kids in his previous home. Akiko has beautiful green eyes and face markings! He has excellent litterbox habits. He’s a social talkative boy that just wants out of the shelter.
