Earlier this month, Fresno Humane Animal Services animal control officer Priscilla Wolcott got a call about five dogs who’d been left behind at an abandoned property. She quickly arrived at the scene and rescued the pups, but just as she was about to leave, a woman flagged her down.
The woman, who lived in the neighborhood, let Wolcott know that there was actually a sixth pup at the property. The dog had been hiding under a shed, away from all the other animals, because she had a puppy to protect.
The woman showed Priscilla the shed where the mama and her puppy had been hiding. Priscilla couldn’t see either dog at first, so she knew they were well-hidden. Priscilla approached cautiously, not wanting to spook the vigilant mama.
“Right as I leaned down … the puppy just popped right out, right in front of my camera,” Wolcott said. “I was like, ‘Oh, hello. You are so cute.’”
Wolcott thought the puppy’s bravery was hilarious. In her work as an animal control officer, she doesn’t often come across puppies who are quite that bold.
