Genetic mutations in cats occur naturally. Some are subtle, such as variations in coat color or fur length. Others are more visible. Polydactyl cats, for example, are born with extra toes due to a well-known genetic mutation. While some traits become standardized in breeds, others remain rare and unpredictable.

That is the case with Dobby, a domestic cat from the common domestic shorthair-type cats. The black domestic cat is currently in a foster home. But what is so special about him is his rare mutation. He was born with four ears instead of two.

Dobby's case stands out because of how clearly visible the difference is. Cats already rely heavily on their ears to communicate mood. A slight tilt can signal curiosity. Flattened ears can signal fear or irritation. With four ear flaps, Dobby appears permanently expressive.

Dobby is currently in foster care in Alabama, being cared for by Kitty Kat Haven and Rescue. In a video showing his beauty, fans were quick to point out that he is just adorable, no matter the extra pair of ears.
