Bringing a feline into your household represents a major commitment, demanding thoughtful consideration of how the animal would fit into your way of life. To help prospective owners, a vet has put together his top five breed recommendations for those introducing their first cat.

While the differences between feline breeds might seem less obvious than those between canine breeds, there's still much to consider when choosing the ideal cat for your situation.

Some cats are fairly low-maintenance and happy with a calmer existence, while others need frequent grooming appointments and flourish in livelier, more interactive settings.
