Video: Owner Demonstrates That Yawning is Contagious in Dogs Too – DogTime

If you’ve ever caught yourself yawning after someone else does, you’re not alone; apparently, dogs aren’t immune either. In a new video posted by @aaronhidock, we get front-row seats to a hilarious little “experiment” starring Mable, a gentle Great Pyrenees with the patience (and side-eye) of a saint. The video starts with her lounging on the couch like she’s clocked out for the day, while her human sits nearby, clearly up to something. “People say yawning is contagious… You tell me,” the on-screen text reads. What follows is part science, part comedy, and 100% proof that dogs really do mirror our moods, just maybe on their own schedule.
The internet can’t get enough of this moment — the video’s already pulled in over 7,700 likes. And plenty of relatable laughs and “you got me yawning” comments.
Aaron starts by letting out a big, exaggerated yawn, hoping to see if his sleepy co-star will follow suit. Mable, however, isn’t easily impressed. She stares straight ahead, barely acknowledging him, giving off major “not now, Dad” energy. Even the family cat strolls through the background, totally unbothered by the situation.

But Aaron doesn’t give up. He tries again, looking directly at Mable and giving another large yawn. The result is instantaneous and perfect: Mable responds with a lip smack, followed by her enormous, slow yawn. The experiment is a success! Aaron laughs, telling Mable, “I got you.”
Mable, perhaps tired of being the subject of scientific inquiry, responds by giving her human a gentle nose boop with her paw. This tender, funny gesture seems to mean, “Okay, Dad, you win, but enough with the yawning now.” Aaron immediately rewards her with a kiss.
