Why fireworks are fun for you – but hellish for our pets – The Irish News

But for many of us, this past spooky season has lingered longer than we’d have liked – and not because of the leftover sweets.
This year’s celebrations seemed louder and more relentless than ever. The crackle and thud of fireworks echoed across housing estates and country lanes alike, well beyond Halloween night itself.
For some, that’s all part of the fun but for others, particularly pet owners, it’s a nightmare that comes with trembling paws, pounding hearts, and, too often, heartbreak.
Despite regulations that require a licence to buy and use most fireworks, the reality is that enforcement is lax and misuse is rife.
What’s meant to be a short burst of community celebration has morphed into a free-for-all, with back gardens and street corners doubling as mini pyrotechnic shows – and our pets paying the price.
