Displaced People with Pets in Jamaica Struggling to Find Place to Stay After Hurricane Melissa

Tens of thousands of people and pets have been displaced after devastating Hurricane Melissa tore across Jamaica destroying everything in her path.
Most emergency shelters on the island are not pet friendly, which is resulting in many displaced families struggling to find pet food and a place to go with their beloved pets.
Calls for help continue to come into local animal rescues like Montego Bay Animal Haven to take in displaced animals. Sadly, the kennels and outdoor space at the haven were severely damaged and they are overflowing with shelter pets and unable to take any more animals at this time.

They posted a plea for local fosters to reach out to them so they could put them in contact with families with pets in need.
They wrote, "Unfortunately a lot of the people who have lost their homes have pets and they don't want to leave them but the shelters won't allow animals to come and some of their relatives won't allow them to bring the animals either. So if you can help anyone with housing their animals temporarily please comment so we can put you in touch. We've had a lot of people ask us to take in their animals temporarily, but we literally have nowhere for them to go these people love their animals dearly and won't even leave a devastated area if it means their animals are left behind. It's heartbreaking and we wish we could help house them but it's comforting to see people caring about their animals while they've lost everything for now this is what we can do while we rebuild."
