Cockatoo Has Most Heartfelt Response to Hearing Cat Sibling Crossed the Rainbow Bridge
Some pet videos are cute, some are funny, and a few feel like someone quietly opened a door on the heaviest part of your heart. This one sits in that last category.
In this TikTok video, a woman sits with her Cockatoo, Furby, and gently tells him that his feline brother, Jacob the cat, died last night. Furby listens, head tilted, eyes fixed on her face in that hyper-focused way parrots have when they’re taking everything in. Then, in his small, clear voice, he asks the question that knocks the wind out of you:
She tells him the truth as she understands it. Jacob died. We do not really know where they go, but we do know that he is not in pain anymore. Furby processes this, shifting his feathers, letting out little sounds that feel like he is trying to talk through something too big for words. It is raw, strangely quiet, and impossibly tender.

There is something both heartbreaking and beautiful about explaining death to an animal who can literally ask you about it. Most of us have done a version of this with dogs and cats, except they only have body language to work with. Furby has words, and that makes it hit differently. He is not just a bird repeating sounds. He is a family member being told his friend is gone.
And in classic bird fashion, there are tiny flashes of accidental humor woven through the pain. The way he leans in. The way he seems to search her face for more information. You can almost hear him thinking, “Unacceptable. Bring the cat back,” while also trying his best to understand.
