For many, pets are a companion, a confidant, a source of protection, maybe even a walking partner, but most of all — they’re family, with 97 percent of Americans considering their pets a member of their household, and 51 percent calling their furry friends one of their own, as much as a human. 

And just like any close loved one, people want to be assured that their pets are receiving the best care possible. In order for pets to live long and healthy lives, proper healthcare and checkups are essential for owners. 

Luckily, Newsweek partnered up with Plant-A Insights to present pet owners nationwide with a list of America’s Best Animal Hospitals 2026, featuring over 1,262 animal hospitals where pets receive the best care. 

The news outlet paired with the research creating a national survey of over 30,000 participants, ranking the best locations based on millions of online reviews. Customer service, quality of care and affordability were all factors that determined which places especially excelled in animal care using a ranking out of five stars. 

In Monmouth County, Newsweek gave City by the Sea Veterinary of Asbury Park (also hosting City by the Sea Vet Urgent Care) a 5-star ranking. The Sea Girt Animal Hospital which has been serving neighborhood pets for over 50 years was also highlighted with 4.5 stars.
