Stunning Shiba Inu Gets Into Adorable Standoff With the Neighborhood Cat – Parade Pets

Shiba Inus, the smallest of Japan’s native breeds, are known for their intense prey drive and stunning, foxlike appearance. Loyal and affectionate with their families, these silky canines can wreak havoc with smaller animals and neighboring cats.
For one Shiba Inu living in Hungary named Juki, dominance in size didn’t intimidate the neighbor’s cat. Faced with one another, the gorgeous pup and the confident feline got into an adorable stalemate. Unbothered, the cat remained perched on a fence, watching Juki spin his wheels.
In a video shared to social media, Juki can be seen approaching a fence where a neighborhood cat proudly sits. Juki barks at the feline before finally giving up and moving on. Being neighbors, it’s possible Juki and the cat’s stalemate is a long-enduring battle for fence dominance. Still, Juki seems determined to get the cat off the fence. Despite Juki’s barks and protests, the cute cat doesn’t flinch or move from her perch.
While dogs have earned a reputation over the years for disliking cats, Shiba Inus don’t actually detest them. Shibas were bred to hunt small game. In the presence of a cat, a Shiba Inu’s prey drive instinct may take over, and a dangerous game of chase may ensue.
If your Shiba lives in close proximity to a cat, make sure to supervise the two at all times, especially in the beginning. While it’s ideal to introduce a cat and a Shiba Inu from a young age, it’s important to ensure the cat has a high perch that can’t be accessed by the Shiba Inu to keep the feline safe.
